Where is the Retreat at Lake Gaston?

We're located on beautiful Lake Gaston at 46 Antler Ct in Bracey, Virginia, 23919.  We're just over the North Carolina/Virginia border about 4 miles off of interstate 85.  Raleigh/Durham is about 1 hour and 20 minutes' drive south and Richmond is about the same distance north.

How large of a group can enjoy the retreat?

We can host groups as large as 12 unless you have 2 adventurous enough to sleep on a top bunk, in which case we can host 14. We have 9 beds in 4 bedrooms in the main house and 3 beds (again, not counting the top bunks) in 2 bedrooms in our attached cottage.  Our dining room can very comfortably seat 12. Our standard offering is for use of the main house with a group of 9 or less. We offer the cottage as an add-on for an additional fee which includes the cleaning fee for the cottage.

What if we have fewer than 9 in my group?

Our retreat is rented as a whole and the price per night is the same whether you have 9 or fewer. Having a larger group makes it more economical per person.

How many sewing stations are there?

We have nine 2' x 4' sewing tables and office chairs in the living room / sewing area. For groups with more than nine quilters, we recommend either using the kitchen table as extra sewing space or bringing your own sew-ezi or other small sewing tables. It might feel a little cramped with more than nine sewing stations in the living room / sewing room.

Can you take payment from each individual in my group?

Unfortunately no.  We ask that you choose a group organizer to collect payment and organize your group and then make the reservation with us.  We recommend letting the group organizer choose their room first (and get the last slice of the cake).

Is the retreat handicap accessible?

We'd love to say yes but because of our location on the hills surrounding Lake Gaston, our retreat house was build on a hillside and has steps to enter the house and a couple of steps within the house on the main floor.  Our bedrooms in the main house are either up a flight of stairs or down a flight of stairs from the main floor as well.  If you have someone in your group who has mobility challenges but can navigate a few steps, our Cottage offers bedrooms just a couple of steps up from the main floor of the house.  The Cottage can be reserved as an add-on when you make your reservation.

Is there programming at the Retreat at Lake Gaston?

No, we are providing a wonderful place for you to hold your own retreat, but any activities will be up to you and your group to create.  We may offer classes in the future for groups so if this is something that interests you, please let us know.

Do I need to have a quilting group to make a reservation?

We have designed the Retreat at Lake Gaston with quilters and other crafters in mind and want to ensure that we have availability for those groups.  We are not taking reservations at this time for families or non-quilting/crafting groups.  You're welcome to gather up your friends who quilt or craft and make a reservation.

Is food provided?

We do not provide food for your retreat. However, we do have a fully-equipped kitchen in the main house and a second kitchen in the cottage.  You can find pots, pans, baking dishes, crock pot, utensils, blender, rice maker, coffee pots, toaster oven, grill, and much more for you to prepare your own meals.  We will also provide a list of restaurants and their distances from the retreat in case you want to go grab a meal to bring back.

Do we have to bring our own linens (sheets, towels, etc.)?

No, we provide all the linens for your use.  Each bed will be made with clean sheets and bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths will be provided.

Do we have to clean the house after the retreat?

We charge a cleaning fee and bring in a cleaning service after you leave.  However, we do ask that you keep things tidy and follow the check out procedure that we provide in order to make it possible to prepare the retreat for the next group.
